Kedarnath is a town in the Indian state of uttrakhand & has gained importance because of kedarnath temple. It is a nagar panchayat in rudraprayag district.

Kedarnath is a hindu temple dedicated to Shiva (mahadev) located on the garhwal Himalayan ranges near mandakini river, the holy pilgrimage is in the state of natural beauty uttrakhand India. The 'lord of kedarkhand' The historical name of the region. The temple is not accessible by road & has to be reached by a 22 kilometers uphill trek from gaurikund.pony and manahan services is available to reach the temple.

The historic hindu legends says that the temple  was built by the pandavas the kedarnath temple is involved in one of the twelve jyotirlingas, the holiest hindu shrines of Shiva. The temple is also one of the four major sites in india's chota char dham pilgrimage of northern Himalayas. Kedarnath is highest temple among all the 12 jyotirlingas.

-In 2013 flash floods in north India the temple complex,surrounding areas,& kedarnath town suffered extensive damage, the temple structure did not suffer any ''major"damage ,apart from a few cracks on the one side from four walls.

-A large rock among the debris acted as a barrier, protecting  the temple from flood after this the believers named the rock bhim sheela and worship the rock bhim sheela.

-The kedarnath temple is atleast a 1000 year old temple which has been blessing the Himalayas & the believers who visit there.


-Very few people known that the bhaironath temple which is located at a very short distance from kedarnath temple, believed that bhaironathji guards the kedarnath temple by keeping away evil while the temple remain close therefore the bhaironath is visited ceremoniously at the opening closing of kedarnath.

-The kedarnath temple is highest among all 12 jyotirlingas of lord shiva at the height of  3,553m.

-The head priest of kedarnath temple are known as raval are offspring(वंश) of shankaracharya.

-Only the  ravals have the rights to do main puja of kedarnath temple & they are the head priest. 

-The history of Hinduism says that Kedarnath temple age is 1000 years old.

-The kedarnath nath temple is temporarily closed in month of  October & November due to extreme weather conditions and open in month of april-may the temple is open for visitors only 6 month's.
