Delhi's most famous monument, the red fort stands not only as a powerful reminder of the mughal era india but also a symbol of India's struggle for freedom. It was built by fifth mughal emperor shah jahan, when he decided to shift his capital there from agra in 1638. The forts turbulent history includes being captured by the Sikhs and the British. To take your imagination back to the ancient era, a one hour sound and light show of the forts history is held each evening.

Entry cost:- foreigner 500 rupees.
India's 35 rupees.

Opening hours :- 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. plus light show in the evening. Closed on monday

India gate, official name delhi memorial originally called All india war memorial, monumental sandstone arch in New Delhi, it stands as a memorial to 70,000 soldiers of the British army who died in between 1914 and 1921 in the first world war.

03. Qutub minar

Qutub minar, is one of the highest minarets in india with a height of 73 meters. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and the tallest brick minarets in the world. This 12th century minaret is considered as the earliest Islamic structure in India with both Arabic and Brahmi inscriptions.

Opening hours:- 7:00 am to 5:00 pm , open all days 

Entry fee :- 35 rupees for indians, 550 rupees for foreigners. 


04 Akshardham Temple

This exquisite temple is dedicated to swaminarayan, an indian yogi and spiritual soul existed during the 18th century.  Touted as the  worlds largest comprehensive Hindu temple by the guiness world record, Delhi's Akshardham is known for its aesthetic beauty, unique exhibitions, sprawling campus, and tranquility. The height of this hindu temple measure 356 ft ( 109 m).

Timing:- 9:30 am to 8:00 pm, closed on monday 



05. Bahai (Lotus) Temple

The lotus temple is among the famous tourist places in Delhi and major landmark of india that has been attracting tourists from all over the world because of its architecture and beauty.  The construction of the temple was finished in 1986. It resembles the lotus flower but created in white colour. The lotus temple is open to all people, regardless of region and caste. The structure is built of 27 free-standing marble clad petals in clusters of three to form nine sides. The lotus temple is one of the best places visit if you are planning to spend a day in Delhi.

Timing:- summer season timing, 09:00 am to 07:00 pm 
While in winter it is form 09:00 am to 05:30 pm
All days but expect monday.

06. Jama masjid

The jama masjid delhi, it is one of the largest mosques in india which was built by mughal emperor shah jahan b/w 1644 and 1656. During  that time, the construction of the mosque took around 1 million rupees. Imam from Bukhara inaugurated the building after its completion. The mosque is protected by three great gates and four pillars  also there are two 40 meters high minarets created on red sandstone and white marble standing.

Timing:- Entry to the mosques  is on all days from 07:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 01:30 pm to 06:30 pm


Entry Fee:-  Entry charges are free but for photography you should pay Rs 200-300 and for climbing the southern minaret you  supposed to pay Rs 100.



07. Gurudwara Bangla sahib

Delhi's most important sikh place of worship, the 18th century gurudwara Bangla sahib is near connaught place and is well worth visit. Highlight include its magnificent pool, the sarovar, at the heart of this large complex, as well as its famous gold dome and flagpole. Also of note is the large temple building itself, along with its art gallery and a small museum dedicated to the historic of the sikh religion. Visitors are always welcome here, and an excellent meal is available at no cost in the large gurudwara kitchen.

08. Humayun's Tomb

Set in a lovely, large square garden, Humayun's Tomb is a lofty mausoleum constructed of white marbles and red stones. It was designed as a prototype of the taj Mahal in Agra is an excellent example of Mughal architecture. Built in the mid-16 th century by Haji Begum as a memorial to her husband by Humayun's senior widow, the tomb is surrounded by lush formal gardens and other tomb including Humayuns barber and the tomb of Isa khan ( the architecture of the taj mahal ) a fine example of lodi architecture and octagonal in shape. A fun thing to do is to try and catch glimpse of this spectacular structure after nightfall when its illuminated.

Entry fees :- for indian 35 rupees and for international visitors 550 rupees. And free for under 15 age.

09. Gandhi smriti and Raj Ghat

A visit to gandhi smriti will show you the exact spot where Mahatma Gandhi, affectionately referred to as the father of the Nation was assassinated on January 30, 1948. He lived in the house for 144 days up until the time of his death. The room that he slept in, kept exactly how he left it, and the prayer ground where he held a mass congregation every evening are both open to the public. Plenty of photos, sculptures, paintings, and inscriptions are also on display. You can also visit his memorial at Raj ghat.

10. Rajpath and Rashtrapati Bhavan

Rajpath, also known as the king's way, is New Delhi's traditional ceremonial boulevard. Running from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official presidential residence, past such important city landmarks as Vijay chowk and india gate all the way to the National stadium, this board avenue is flanked by trees,grass and ponds and comes alive each January 26th during the Republic Day  parade, when countless thousands gathered to celebrate the anniversary of the country's independence.
